Теория, объясняющая закономерности общественного развития и социально-экономических процессов научно-техническим прогрессом, изменениями и развитием технологий производства. Выдвинута в 50-60-е гг. XX в. Основными авторами теории являются французский социолог Р. Арон, американские экономисты Дж. Гэлбрейт [Galbraith, John Kenneth] и У. Ростоу [Rostow, Walt Whitman]. Лежит в основе теории конвергенции
